Vera Wang Spring 2017
Like most modern trends of individuality, wedding dresses should be the most personal and individual of them all. Though looking through the leaders of haute corture fashion this year I've found two very distinct tastes. The first a modern and clean design consisting of stiff, plain materials and a sleek shape. The second a more fun and romantic taste. Layers with multiple textures, lace, volume and different fabric types. What has surprised me the most is that these are so contrasted but have been found in the same collections.
You'll find the most prominent features of this years designs below.
The Sweet Heart
A soft sweet heart neck line. Paired with texture such as a lace over lay or extended neckline and sleeves
Overlays and Sheer Fabrics
Another soft feature; tulle, chiffon, feathers, lace, and every other soft texture you can imagine. Layer upon layer for more effect.
Most of the designs this year were pefectly symmetrical. However the ones that made a feature out of non symmetry really caught the eye.
Veils of length
If you are holing up tradition you will need a veil. This year is all about length and simplicity with just a small detail such as a border or sprinkle of intricate lace or flowers.
A line skirts
Crediting the modern simplicity, A line skirts would be the safest way to go.
Open shoulder sleeves
The sleeves are slightly oversized giving the illusion of a romantic 'slipping off the shoulder' effect.
Over exaggerated neck features are displayed here, translating into a more modest modern bride.
18th Century flash backs
Like the queens of the 18th century a full layer skirt with an open front is placed over the dress skirt to create another layer that shows the fabric of both.
I hope I have inspired you to get creative and imagine your own 2017 wedding dress, individual, bold, intricate and stunning!
