Aloha! First I would like to apologise for missing a post last week due to a family tradity. Secondly I would like to inform you on my holiday plans! I am about to embark on a two week road trip through NSW and Victoria so I will not be able to post while away. But don't fret I will share my holiday experiences with you and hopefully have some wonderful travel tips to inspire you on your future journeys.
In this weeks post I will share with you some wonderful tips I have discovered for packing. The weather where I'm going can be unpredictable so I will have to cover all bases. I will have to pack for the beach as well as the city and also three formal outfits for a convention I am attending. Here we go!
Please excuse my use of polyvore. I am a complete amature so hopefully next time my skills will be better ;) Below is a breif overview of my packing plans for this trip, hopefully this will give you ideas and inspire you to get your travel packs going!
Three Formal Outfits
I know, I know I could mix and match and save room on these outfits but if you are anything like me I couldn't bare to leave these gorgeous dresses behind. I did save room by wearing the same shoes however and also able to share accessories. I did forget to include stockings in the pictures. I won't leave those behind!
Keeping simple colours easily mixed and matched, a variety of texture and warmth and an easy scarf to brighten the look and keep those breezy chills away! Easy to travel in jeans and easy to pack everything!
Hope you all have a wonderful and safe holidays and I can't wait to update you all when I get home! Please leave wonderful tips and comments for your fellow travelers!

So we are all aware that these past few years the “indie” “hipster” “alternative” clothing, music and basically everything has become more mainstream than “mainstream” or “pop.” While we could all sit here and argue about who liked The Smiths first while taking artistic pictures for Instagram, lets get down to the nitty gritty.
The indie scene has been made popular by so many awesome famous faces such as Hayley Williams, Ed Sheeran, and Zooey Deschanel. The entire point of being “indie” is to be individual and literally "Independant." If the entire population is claiming to be indie while all wearing the same “hipster” top from supre, I’m quite sure this purpose is defeated. This doesn’t mean you should get all your clothes from the thrift store and hand me downs from your grandmother either. So I will give you some wonderful tips on how to truly be yourself without worrying about blending in or standing out. (Clothes wise)
Eight Step Meltdown
So can we please stop being so obsessed with being cool and different and just start being ourselves? Leave me your fabulous opinions down below and have a wonderful day!
Aloha Madomoiselles and Gentlemen. I will be completely honest with you all - I had absoluetly no idea what to blog about this week. Work has been crazy busy and inspirations are running thin. So today I thought I'd give you the inside info on my sweet boutique and exciting things that you can look forward to very soon.
If you don't already know my name is Lilli, I run my own boutique online Inescapable and have a passion for uniqueness, creativity and fashion. Don't be mislead when I say fashion, I don't mean the bright shiney lights of hollywood, flashiong lights and people who are so botoxed they dribble when they speak. I'm not a fan of the fake, but I am a fan of the design and creativity of modern designers like Alexander Mcqueen, but I also love historical fashion and turning art into clothing and vice versa. Being a huge geek I am sort of obsessed with costuming and character design. You can check out my Illustrating Tutorial here. Below are some inspirations for this week.
I am currently saving up to get an apple laptop with photoshop and illustrator so I can clean up my artwork and present it beautifully. I've been working on some standard designs and costume designs aswell which I will give you a sneak peak at ;)
Mega exciting news!
As for my boutique I will be having a stall at the Gold Coast Car Show + Retro Rock 'n Roll Night. Make sure you come visit me! I'm also planning a photoshoot there to show off some new designs including mens shirts and ladies dresses!
Some inspirational people that have really given me a boost this week are Alex Beadon and Leilani Joy. Alex has fantastic advice on how to be your own boss and start working for yourself. If you are thinking of starting your buisness then I encourage you to just go for it!! and check out her videos. Leilani Joy is an artist, I love her positive, creative attitude and her artwork is right up my alley. She inspired me to get out my pencils this week.
My character of the week is Ramona Flowers. I love her attitude, her hair, unique style and her name. I have about the equivelent amount of teas in my cupboard but I wish I had her steampunk goggles. Shes the cats pajamas of the alternative girl and full of confident insecurities.
What have you been up to this week? and are there any inspirations you'd like to share? Please leave your wonderful comments below. Have a beautiful weekend!
I'm still incredibly inspired by spring so here is another sweet spring post. Today I'm going to focus on gardening. First of all I know you are busy, you don't have time to garden! Helps boost the natural environment, sure it might be one tiny little flower but every little bit counts. If you grow your own food, this will encourage healthier eating and also save money on buying fruit and veg. A great source of light to moderate excersise that is enjoyable. The vitamins in the soil and sunlight have been researched and found to help a humans overall wellbeing, so get your mits into the ground! Last but not least, having a nice healthy garden increases property value and of course makes your home look wonderful!
Now that you have more than enough reasons to get out that watering can, time for some inspirations!
So there you have some wonderful, cheap and easy ideas to start your healthy garden in spring. Of course add in some flowers for decoration! The more flowers the better! Please leave any comments down below and may your garden grow :)
Amanda Janae Artistry
I bring you to a world of imagination and fantastic hand work. The human body is her canvas and makeup is her tool. Amanda is a freelance makeup artist from Texas. After working in a floral buisness for some time, her inspiration grew. Her colour pallet bloomed as she paired and organised floral arrangements. Still having a love for the beauty of flowers Amanda expanded her horizens to experimenting with colourful makeup. Now she invests her time in makeup artistry and is forever creating visual delights. Below is a glimpse of her exquisite work.
For anyone endeavouring to get started with thier own artistic aspirations, Amandas advice is;
"To not get discouraged, keep trying new things, practice your skill daily, and to remember that your only competition should be you, to strive to do better than the day before."
I hope you have once again been inspired. Please leave your much appreciated comments down below.
Spring is upon us! The most beautiful time of year in my opinion. It's still frosty in the mornings but the sunshine is a delight when it soaks into your skin. Of course the first thing everyone thinks of when someone mentions spring is... flowers! We all know that famous scarcastic quote from Devil Wears Prada... "Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking!" In the fashion world inspiration for spring/summer comes straight from the most beautiful things on earth. Flowers. This comes as no surprise as we see this year in and year out. But do we ever get sick of it? No. Unlike every other trend or fad, somehow the earthy, natural, sweet feel of flowers stays in our hearts.
So here I present to you some all natural ways to embrace the spring and unleash your inner flower child.
In the Home
Your home should feel like home, decorate it with love and style. Spring time is all about nature and and fresh begginings, look around you and be inspired. Wooden and natural furniture, splashes of colour and softness in style is key. It's easy to go overboard with flowers, colour and even floral wallpaper but remember less is more. Fill your house with natural tones. Open the windows and swap those heavy winter curtains for light breezy ones. Add a dip of colour into each room with a vase of fresh flowers, a bowl of fruits, a painting, coloured cushions, light bed covers and table cloths, sweet candles, even a pot plant or small tree in your living room or next to the door will bring the happiness outside to in your home.
Food Glorious Food.
Goodbye soup! Hello fruit! Spring is a fantastic time for sunny picnics in the park. Fresh sandwiches, fruit salad and lemonade is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. The garden is flourishing so now is a great time to grow some of your own food! Strawberries, cherries, lemons, mint, sunflowers, tomato, watermelon, pumpkin, bok choy and basil are fantastic to have fresh from the garden. If you don't have a large yard, try some herbs and strawberries in little pots on the window sill. Fresh jam and cakes are also a huge hit with spring (or really anytime for me). Get out your wooden spoon and dust off that apron. Below are a few ideas to get you inspired!
What To Wear
The days are still slightly chilly although theres no need for that heavy trench coat anymore. Light long sleeve tops, high waisted pants or skirts, a hair accessory and of course those floral dresses. Guys you are included too! A formal shirt with the sleeves rolled, jeans and of course I always reccomend a printed or floral bowtie! Accessorise with flowers and you can't go wrong, just don't turn yourself into a forest and get lost underneath all the foliage.
Please note some of these photos are not mine and are linked to the source :)
I wish you all a fabulous spring! Please tell me of any things you do to spring up your home or waordrobe!
May you all be happy, healthy and as beautiful as the flowers.
This amazing wardrobe was found on archiexpo
Do you ever find yourself staring at a floor covered in clothes and saying "I have no clothes! There is nothing I can wear!!" Well my freind you have develpoed the "I have nothing to wear" syndrome. Don't panic, you'll be cured in just three simple steps.
Time to say goodbye
This can pretty much be described as hardcore spring cleaning. Be tough, stay strong, and you will get through it! I like to empty my entire cupboard and draws, and go through each item one by one. The keeps you can hang back up neatly and the throw aways can go in a bag ready to donate to the second hand store. "But I want to keep everything" you say? I know for a fact that you don't wear half the items in there... here are some guidelines to follow:
Look through your clothes once again, they may feel light on but thats A OK! Take note of what you are missing, do you now have no jeans? Are you going to need more shirts for work? We can worry about filling in the gaps later... for now lets go through your chuckout pile and what you should do with them.
It's great to donate clothes to people in need and also second hand stores, but if you are going to need some new clothes on a budget why not have a swap meet with freinds and family? Set a date, have some cake and swap your clothes! Everything left over can be donated.
The Fun Begins!
So you've swapped clothes with your freinds, you've sold a few things on ebay, and you've donated tnow it's time to fill your wardrobe up again! Remember that list of clothes you need? It's time to go get them!!! Here is a check list to make it a bit easier for you:
Get the most out of your clothes.
We don't all have a million dollars to spend on a new wardrobe unfortunately, so the best way to combat limited clothes is to buy plain clothes that can easily be mixed and matched. You can dress them up, having a variety of accessories to add to your outfits is essential. If you find you always have "nothing to wear" stock up on plain tops! You can wear them with a patterened skirt or pants. You can add coloured scarves, belts, bowties, necklaces, hats, shoes, hair accessories. There is no end with what you can do with an imagination!
On a side note pretty please take care of your clothes correclty! Follow the instructions on the care label and your favourite jacket will last a whole lot longer!
I hope this inspired you to go and do some hardcore cleanouts! You should do this about once a year, so maybe it's time ;) I would love to hear your suggestions and comments!!!! Happy revamping!

To celebrate the regeneration of the 12th Doctor here is a recap on all his clothing choices through out the years and galaxies. As an even bigger celebration, to honour the end of my favourite Eleventh Doctor, all bowties are now 30% off! So which doctor are you going to dress as for the opening night? Grab your screwdriver and hold on tight, yes... it's bigger on the inside.
The First Doctor
The Second Doctor
Quirky is the best description for Doctor number two - Patrick Troughton. Recorder in hand and aliens at his feet, his clothing sure fit in in the sixties, however, considered radical in any other era. His attire consists of what looks like hand-me-down pants from number one, formal shirt and classic coast, suspenders, and is the wearer of the original bowtie! Of course if you are going to be cosplaying as the Second Doctor, don't forget to carry that smug look with you.
Frilled shirts and velvet smocking jackets are the way to the future! (if you're a time traveler). Number Three is quite easily the most magnificently dressed out of all. With his magician like outfits and love for the opulent class. Velvet, frills, and bowties! His distinctive red and black cape cannot be missed as well as his well fitted and finished gloves (with frill of course).
The Fifth Doctor
To dress as the fifth doctor (or whom I like to nickname Goldielocks), whip out those stright legged stripey pants, a polo shirt, a sweater and a jacket outlined in orange. Forgret pocket squares and pick up the celery instead, yes you read correctly, celery. I must give him cedit for being incredibly matched in his entire outfit, including his round hat and the appropriate question marks on his collar. Orange is his colour and if the celery turns purple... well... his outfit will be ruined, and we simply can't have that!
The Seventh Doctor
The Tenth Doctor
I wish you all a safe journey amongst the stars. Please leave a comment on your favourite doctor or which one you'll be dressing up as for the magnificent introduction of the twelveth doctor! Don't forget that there are 30% off all bowties and also as an extra special, order a custom made bowtie and get 30% off with the code word "Doctor." These are perfect for presents and cosplays!

Bowties are cool from deviantart
Aloha! Welcome to my first ever tutorial! (*insert ridiculous facial expression here*)...
This is a step by step guide to traditional illustrating. If you don't know "traditional art" means it's not digitally edited or made, purely the work of your own imagination, hands and paintbrushes. The type of illustrating I'm going to be showing today is usually used for fashion illustrating and costume/character design. So pick up your paintbrushes and unleash your imagination!!!!!
Please note that there are no 'wrong' or 'right' ways to do art, art is purely self expression and all techniques can be used in any way to bring accross your ideas. People develope thier unique own styles and tastes. This is a demonstration mainly for begginers to get started! Of course the experts might pick up a few tricks as well ;)
I have chosen to re-create Ahri from Leauge of Legends for this tutorial - of course you can use your own designs!!!
HERE COMES THE FUN
DETAILS, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DETAILS
SMOOTH SIXTH STEP
Well fellow designers you have completed your illustrating tutorial! Of course please leave comments and suggestions below! I'd just like to say that I love doing traditional art compared to using digital art features. It's raw, comes straight from your hands and heart and has so much more uniqueness. So thats why I do all my design illustrations by hand. ^_^
Is there another tutorial you'd like me to do? Please let me know!
Adios Amegos! If you give this a go I want to see it!!! Post it on instagram with #inescapabletutorial or tag me @inescapable_clothing!

Last week I gave you all 5 steps to becomming an unreal cosplayer! If you haven't checked that out I suggest you do!
Ofcourse most cosplays require at least a little bit of sewing, so here are my top sewing tips that I want to share with you!
Iron before you sew!
This can get annoying and tedious but trust me it will save you unpicking a whole lot! You will have perftectly even seams and your machine will glide over your fabric like disney on ice.
Have the corrcet tension
Tension is different with all types of fabrics and threads. It can be hard to know exactly the tension you need.
Practice on a piece of spare fabric (the same kind you are about to sew.) I found you an awesome diagram to help with that pesky problem of thread tug-of-war!
Awesome diagram discovered on ohyoucraftygal
At the start and end of each line of sewing make sure you backstitch just a couple stitches. This will prevent your seams coming undone before you get to finish your creation.
Guide your fabric
As you sew guide your fabric through, hold the back and front as you sew and keep a light tension on the fabric.
Your machine should already have marked lines for you to accurately measure your seam allowance as you sew, so make sure you stick to them! However sometimes you need a different measurement - this is where coloured or masking tape comes in handy! Simply stick it on (make sure it's straight) and off you go!
Changing needles and feet
Once you have changed the needle or foot, without thread - turn the wheel by hand a couple times to make sure it is running smoothly. If your needle stoppes or scrapes and hits the foot or base then STOP! Don't force it, you will end up with a snapped needle flung at you. Double check you've inserted everything correctly including the bobbin (without thread.) Check your manual or look online for your make and model. If all else fails you may have simply bought the wrong needle or foot for your machine.
Stretchy fabric stretching your patience?
First of all get a stretch needle. they have a rounded end not a sharp point so it gets inbetween the threads instead of breaking them apart. Make sure you have the right tension and make your stitch length longer. If your machine has a zig-zig stitch use that instead of straight.Don't stretch the fabric all the way out as you sew it. Put a little tension on it like normal fabric and off you go!
Give me some closure
If you have anymore tips and tricks please share them in the comments below!! Or if you have questions or need help with some sewing problems I will get back to you with an answer asap!
Happy sewing everyone!

What is cospalying? For most it's fun way to spend the day, night or weekend and for others it's an artform. Cosplay is the act of dressing up as a character usually from anime, scifi or comicbooks. There are conventions for cosplayers held all around the world such as Comicon and Supanova. It's a great way for scifi and fantasy enthusiasts to gather together and share the things they love as well as "getting into character."
So how do I cosplay? You ask. Well I'll give you five simple steps and tips to have you looking like the leading role and of course getting your geek on!
Step one. Choose your character!
Obviously people usually go for thier favourite characters, but when choosing a character make sure you consider if you would be comfortable wearing thier outfit, how hard it would be to find an outfit or make one or if you can alter it to fit your needs. Of course you don't have to have a 100% accurate costume, many people love to do mashups, group cosplays, crossplays and themed looks such as a steampunk or futuristic version of thier character.
Make sure you collect as many inspiration photos as you can and pictures from all angles if possible.
Don't hold back, dress as superflous as you like and just have fun!
Step three. Costuming help.
There are alot of costumes available on the internet and in stores. You could also hire a costme. For good quality costumes you will be paying a high price. If your budget is low you will be wearing a low quality costume with far less detailing, however there is another option! Make it yourself!
For those of you who are going to take the plunge and attempt to create your own costume here are a few good tips:
1. If you have never sewn before. PRACTICE FIRST! There are millions of tutorials on the internet, get onto youtube and find some. Also stay tuned for next fridays blog post on my top sewing tips!
2. Sourcing material. There are so many variables to consider when choosing things to sew. Have a look at what you need, look at similar cosplays. Is it shiney? Is it stretchy? Ask the shop assistant for help when looking and ask if you need any needles, thread and what setting to use. Otherwise ask google or a cosplayer whos done it before.
3. Make sure you have made or bought an appropriate pattern in your size.
4. Cheat! and glue things on like feathers or sequins instead of sewing - whos going to know?
5. You can often find things in thrift shops or stores that can be altered slightly to fit your needs, this cuts down on time, effort and money.
6. Where to for props? Have a massive sword? A heavy shield? The first place to go would be to the toy store or internet. But ofcourse you can get creative and make your own! Google it, I'm sure someones done something similar before.
Step four. Makeup
Yes even if you are a very manly guy, you should still wear makeup, you'll look severely cool. Eyeliner is pretty much essential. If you are wearing a mask, use black eyeliner and eye shadow to cover in the skin around your eyes, it makes it ten times more effective. I'm no makeup expert but I do use it enough to know you don't need the expensive stuff!!
Refer to photos and watch tutorials.
The best tip I can give you is to play around with your face a couple days before you need to get ready! You can test out all sorts of techniques and looks and of course call in the recruits to help or give thier opinion.
Step five. Get into character!
Sure you may look great but can you play the part? Chances are there are going to be alot of photos being taken and if you are standing quietly in the corner, you won't get noticed. You can memorise quotes that your character may say alot if you like. Some people completely leave thier identities behind and get right into thier character. But theres no need to go to that extreme. However one thing you definitely must do is POSE! When you get photos taken of course you need to pose! have fun with it! If theres a pose or sign your character does then go for it! Otherwise put your hands on your hips, turn to the side or make an action...
Above all don't stress too much, if your costume isn't perfect there is always next time, everyone is there to have fun, and it will certainly be a day to remember if your stickytaped tail keeps falling off!
Below are some pictures to get you inspired!
Leave a comment on any cosplay tips you have or who you would love to cosplay as!
May the force be with you, until we meet again, I don't like goodbyes, as I ride off into the sunset - I hope I inspired all my fellow geeks.
Dark Alley Design!
Phoebe is the unique young artist behind Dark Alley Design. Inspired by comic books and sci-fi, her geek side shows through her amazing artwork!
Discovering comic books at age eleven she says, "as soon as I saw Judge Dredd I simply freaked out!" Growing up with sci-fi influence through movies such as "Alien vs Predetor" directed her imagination to capture unreal pictures. Becoming a huge Batman fan aswell, inspired by the Tim Burton films her arkwork reflects these dark, alternative shadows of muse. While being a strong believer in individuality and keeping an open mind she places confidence in kindness, fueling her love for comic justice!
With art in her genes, comics in her heart and paint in her hands; Phoebe creates eye capturing pieces of fantastic characters as well as using out of this world imagination to create female androids and eerie looking masked persons!
Below are a few of her comic related artworks. I'm sure you will enjoy!
